A Brief Insight to the Auto Insurance Rules and Coverage in Indiana

Indiana auto insurance policies give two types of liability coverage to vehicle owners, on physical injury and in case of damage of property or material goods. The first policy will cover your responsibility on bodily injury, which you laid upon others while the second saves you from paying penalty on property damages. But all this can be avoided by following rules and legislation, set by the state to prevent the increasing traffic.

The state's liability minimums are 25/50/10

Minimum Coverage: Uninsured and under insured motorists coverage is included in every Indiana auto insurance law. You will receive minimum coverage of $25,000 for bodily injury, $50,000 for all injury and $10,000 for goods damage in case of uninsured motorists', while for bodily injury of under insured motorists, $50,000 is minimum. You can collect them from your own insurance company.

You are required by law to have certain minimum level of coverage:

Mandatory Coverage
Minimum Requirement
Bodily Injury Liability (BI): When you are at fault in an accident, pays for accidental injury to or the death of another driver, the other driver's passengers, passengers in your car, and pedestrians.

Property Damage (PD): When you are at fault in an accident, pays for the repair or replacement of other people's cars or property.
$10,000 per accident

Medical payments, PIP, and no-fault coverage
Medical payments pay for you and your passengers' treatment on medicine. Personal injury protection (PIP) and 'no-fault' are options of medical payment and not mandatory for every state. Other optional features of Indiana auto insurance, includes coverage for your lost salary and childcare, which may or may not be necessary in your state.

How Auto Insurance Rate Are Determined in Indiana

The rate of auto insurance in Indiana is decided upon the performance of drivers as a whole. Insurance companies take count of the cost including settlement and legal fees and split it up amongst the drivers. But again, the premium paid is not evenly distributed; rather it depends upon how much a certain 'category' of driver costs them. The category is decided upon your driving record, age, location and the class of car you drive.

But this rule varies with company. Your rate can change; depending upon the company you plan to invest on. So the option of checking, bargaining and taking the best policy, lies with you. Just check the Indiana auto insurance quotes for the different rates from various companies and select the best Indiana auto insurance policy.
