Massachusetts Auto Insurance Law

In Massachusetts, auto insurance is a legal requirement and is must to register and drive your vehicle. Being a 'No-Fault' state, personal injury protection is mandatory, which pays for your and other person's injuries. If, as a driver, you can't produce insurance proof in case of an accident, you have to bear the entire cost of damage, claimed by other party. So it's better not to take a chance and go for insurance.

Mandatory Requirements:

In accordance with Massachusetts auto insurance law, other acceptable documents to prove insurance include:

1. A premium receipt or insurance binder issued by the motorist's insurance agent.
2. The current declarations page of a liability insurance policy.
3. The actual liability insurance policy issued for the vehicle.
4. A certificate of liability insurance policy issued by either the insurer or an authorized agent.
5. Proof of purchase of a motor vehicle with the previous 60 days and a valid insurance card issued for the motor vehicle replaced by such purchase. The proof of purchase is to be a copy of the bill of sale if the vehicle is a pre-1975 year model, or the owner's permit (yellow) copy of the application for certificate of title for a 1975 and subsequent year model vehicle.
6. A copy of the rental agreement when renting a motor vehicle, which specifies the insurance coverage.

How Auto Insurance Rate Are Determined in Massachusetts

As in the case of other American states, the price of Massachusetts auto insurance is decided upon the general conduct of state drivers. Companies count the cost, both settlements and legal, and divide it amongst drivers. This price is usually uneven and depends on a few things like, your driving record, your age, you locality, your car etc. But this requirement varies with company. Thus it gives you an option of shopping till you get the best policy and buy it. If you are lucky enough, you may land up buying the best deal with normal cost.
