A Brief Insight to the Auto Insurance Rules and Coverage in Montana

Endless country roads, free from the never-ending traffic, make driving in Montana a pleasurable experience. However, the state auto insurance authorities recommend the minimum amount of liability insurances, which will keep you safe in the event of an accident. If you meet an accident in Montana, you may be required to pay the damages, irrespective of whosoever is at fault. That is, when you do not have the uninsured or underinsured motorists' insurance, which is otherwise not mandatory for state's drivers.

The state's liability minimums are 25/50/10

Minimum Coverage: The minimum coverage for the car insurance, as well as the injury liability in an accident, is $25,000. For all kinds of injury caused during an accident the amount is $50,000. And for the damage of property in an accident the amount is $10,000. The optional coverage provided by the Montana's auto insurance companies are medical payments, collision, comprehensive, and uninsured and underinsured motorists' bodily injury coverage. The minimum coverage is mandatory for every auto insurance company to follow.

You are required by law to have certain minimum level of coverage:

Bodily Injury Liability (BI): When you are at fault in an accident, pays for accidental injury to or the death of another driver, the other driver's passengers, passengers in your car, and pedestrians.

Property Damage (PD): When you are at fault in an accident, pays for the repair or replacement of other people's cars or property. $10,000 per accident
Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Protection: Pays you or your passengers for medical, rehabilitation, and funeral costs. It also pays settlements of lawsuits resulting from an accident caused by an uninsured, underinsured or hit-and-run motorist. You and your family are covered as pedestrians or when riding a bicycle.
$25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident.

Medical payments, PIP, and no-fault coverage
Medical payments coverage comes under the policies offered by the state auto insurance companies. The coverage pays for your, and your passengers', medical expenses if you meet with an accident. Personal injury protection (PIP) and "no-fault" coverage are the added policies included in the form of medical payments protection. The expanded features also include payments for lost wages and childcare.

Montana Auto Insurance Law

Montana auto insurance law protects you against the claims of the sufferers of an accident, by paying them for all the damages caused to them. However, the company is not responsible for the damage caused to you.
If you are an owner a new car, go for the comprehensive and collision coverage, which will protect your vehicle. The policy, however, is not mandatory for all the state's drivers.

Mandatory Requirements:

Auto insurance is a legal requirement for the drivers in Montana. The auto policy is the most appropriate document to protect you financially.

In accordance with Montana auto insurance law, other acceptable documents to prove insurance include:

1. A temporary insurance card issued by the insurer.
2. A premium receipt or insurance binder issued by the motorist's insurance agent.
3. The current declarations page of a liability insurance policy.
4. The actual liability insurance policy issued for the vehicle.
5. A certificate of liability insurance policy issued by either the insurer or an authorized agent.

The proof of purchase is to be a copy of the bill of sale if the vehicle is a pre-1975 year model, or the owner's permit (yellow) copy of the application for certificate of title for a 1975 and subsequent year model vehicle.
7. A copy of the rental agreement when renting a motor vehicle, which specifies the insurance coverage.

drive, your auto insurance policy, your lifestyle, and your service provider. If you want to lower down on the premium rates, then a slight change in the above mentioned factors could help you get what you desire. However, every insurer has a different way to compute and calculate the rates.
