Pennsylvania Auto Insurance Law
In Pennsylvania, the drivers are provided with three major options in terms of auto insurance law. In addition of being a "no-fault" state, a motorist has a choice to sue the opponent as well. Under the "no-fault" coverage, the driver can pay back the premium in two ways. Either you can go in for the 'limited tort', where you can save up to 15-25% of the rate, or you can opt for the 'full tort' system, but the rates are inevitably high for that.
Mandatory Requirements:
Alike any other state of America, auto insurance is mandatory in Pennsylvania too. It is also the easiest option available; to pay back the damages in case you cause an accident. While driving, you must carry the auto insurance documents or any of its evidence.
In accordance with Pennsylvania auto insurance law, other acceptable documents to prove insurance include:
| 1. | A temporary insurance card issued by the insurer. |
| 2. | A premium receipt or insurance binder issued by the motorist's insurance agent. |
| 3. | The current declarations page of a liability insurance policy. |
| 4. | The actual liability insurance policy issued for the vehicle. |
| 5. | A certificate of liability insurance policy issued by either the insurer or an authorized agent. |
| 6. | Proof of purchase of a motor vehicle with the previous 60 days and a valid insurance card issued for the motor vehicle replaced by such purchase. The proof of purchase is to be a copy of the bill of sale if the vehicle is a pre-1975 year model, or the owner's permit (yellow) copy of the application for certificate of title for a 1975 and subsequent year model vehicle. |
| 7. | A copy of the rental agreement when renting a motor vehicle, which specifies the insurance coverage. |
How Auto Insurance Rate Are Determined in Pennsylvania
In Pennsylvania, you can easily low down the rates, which are determined by the auto insurance company. All you have to do is to change few things about your lifestyle, your existing policy, the vehicle you drive or the service providers. Read or take help from the insurance agents for complete information. Severe credit problems or an accident in the past are some of the factors that can affect your rates, so you need to be careful about these.
